"Called Cornwall Drains (Gary) on a Monday (13th) to report drain problem that SWWA had said was not their problem. Chris with CCTV on site later that morning. This showed collapsed drain on my property and damaged drain under adjacent property. I was given clear advice as to the type of repair required for my section of pipe (dig out and replace) and advice re liability for pipe under adjacent property (SWWA liability). Following Monday (20th) my section of drain replaced by Pete - great job done with minimum of fuss. Now need to get SWWA to repair the section of pipe that is their liability. Location: Higher Lidden Road, Penzance, Cornwall
Type of work: We were called out to this client who had a blocked drain, which was affecting all waste services coming out of the property. So, they had blocked pipes, blocked drains, blocked toilets, and blocked sinks. As you can imagine it was a difficult situation for the customer, they had called out Southwest Water and were advised that as the issue was only affecting their property, it was their responsibility. We unblocked the drain using a high-pressure jet which cleared the blockage, and then we did a drain survey which highlighted that a section of the drain had dropped. This would have been the reason for the blockage and if not fixed, would give them continued issues moving forward.
We excavated the area and replaced the affected drain, to ensure that the client would not have issues moving forward. With drain repairs, we can do a variety of solutions which include: Drain replacement and trenchless drain repair (this means we do not excavate the area. We insert a liner within the pipe, which strengthens the current pipe, and is stronger than plastic pipes. The thickness you can have varies between 2mm and 4.5mm based on the severity of the damage to the drain). Trenchless drain repairs are also known as no-dig repairs.
